John Hancock
Classical Piano tuition  <>  Blues/Jazz Piano tuition  <>  Exams or pleasure

<> I started teaching in my mid twenties (a long time ago I might add : ) whilst working as a demonstrator in a large showroom where I was also required to teach piano on the evenings.  I instantly liked music teaching and people liked my friendly and easy to understand informative style.  They also liked the speed and quality of their own or their child's musical advancement.  I have the classical Piano certificates, blues/jazz Piano certificates and music literacy certificates to the ABRSM recommended teaching standard.  I have years of experience and have studied much in the art of teaching piano and music.

<> I composed (and donated) the school song for my local primary school which I was proud to be asked and able to do.  It's featured on the "Listen to Piano" page where you can hear the children singing it.

<> As an exclusively signed composer with a major music publishing company I was presented with a  gold record  that you can see on this picture along with my Associated Board of the Royal Schools of music certificates.  I compose music only for teaching purposes now and enjoy teaching piano very much.

<> Over my life I have performed in groups, big-bands, small bands, trios, duos and solo piano so I also have much musicianship to offer.

<>
I was honoured to be a guest speaker at the  Liverpool Institute of Performing Arts  where I was invited to talk about music composition.   A professional composer/producer/performer for many years, my music is still used for radio television and media productions world wide.

<> I am very honoured to have brought culture and enjoyment in the form of music to so many people (adults and children) over the years.

<> My past piano teachers include Michael Lambert (Trained at Birmingham Conservatoire), Andrew Evans (Head of Music, Lichfield Cathedral School) Andrew Claxton (Oxford School of Music) And Pamela Chilvers (presently an examiner for the Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music).  I hold the greatest regard for my piano teachers and wouldn't have reached the standard I am without their guidance.

<>
My bibliography on piano teaching reference includes: Heinrich Neuhaus - W Newman - F Waterman - D Rowland - S Oglethorpe - J Banowetz - Doctor Suzuki - T Gallwey - John Mehegan - P Harris and R Crozier to name a few.  I would like to mention Andrew Claxton from the Oxford School of Music who gave me much encouragement and Pamela Chilvers, an examiner for the ABRSM who has given me much guidance.  I enjoy passing on a musical ability that people will enjoy for life.
